Cambridge and AVID

Our Mission:

Gulf Trace Elementary School scholars will use college readiness strategies, develop skills in global perspectives, and become well-rounded learners.

How we use AVID and Cambridge to achieve our mission:

College Readiness Strategies

Writing * Inquiry * Collaboration * Organization * Reading

Our teachers use AVID WICOR instructional strategies that research has shown to have the highest impact on college readiness and persistence.  These strategies are used in all subjects throughout the grade levels to create active, student-centered learning experiences for all students. We call these “WICOR” strategies.

Skills in Global Perspectives

Research * Analysis * Communication & Collaboration * Evaluation * Reflection

All grade levels will engage in the Cambridge Global Perspectives course.  On the half-day of each month, scholars will dive deeper into a “Challenge” they’ve been working on that asks them to explore a topic personally, locally, and globally.  Topics include “Improving Communication”, “Moving Goods and People”, and “The Right to Learn.”  Each challenge focuses on developing these global perspective skills.

Well-Rounded Learners

Reflective * Innovative * Confident * Engaged * Responsible

We know that social emotional skills are essential to keep learning going for a lifetime. Our scholars work hard every day to develop learning habits for success in school, work, and life.  Developing these Cambridge Learner Attributes will be a central component in everything our scholars do throughout their Gulf Trace journey.
